Feilding Town Centre

Feilding is a stunning Edwardian-themed town, with Tile styled pavements, beautiful flowerbeds and a warm elegance. The small town atmosphere offers an escape from the hustle and bustle, with “Friendly Feilding” voted “New Zealand’s most beautiful town” 15 times. Twice a week (Friday being the big one!), livestock auctions take over the town and the Feilding Sale Yards create a lively atmosphere as farmers come to town to buy and sell their stock.

As part of a CBD beautification and upgrade, Manawatu District Council installed new bench seating with ornately detailed lion heads, to match the existing Edwardian park seats. Working with Council, Urban Effects created a matching mould and then cast the aluminium-laced bench seat ends, combing them with hardwood timber slats. The position of the seating allows locals and visitors to face in and out – choosing between a roadside view or taking in the quant craft shops that have helped make Feilding famous for old-style hospitality. The new benches have proved so popular that there’s more in the pipeline, with manufacturing already underway.
