Aotea Lagoon South End Renewal

The Aotea Lagoon South End Renewal, led by Porirua City Council, was designed to modernise a much-loved part of one of the city’s major parks. The goal was to create a more accessible and functional community destination while honouring the site’s heritage and natural surrounds.

The renewal enhances usability for events and everyday recreation, while also delivering long-term environmental and social benefits.

Urban Effects partnered with John Fillmore Contracting (JFC Ltd) to help realise the vision created for the new space by Council and Days Bay Design. With a focus on durability, accessibility, and aesthetics, our team supplied a range of New Zealand made park furniture to complement the natural setting, encourage community use, and stand up to the rigours of a popular public park.

The final design features a number of pieces from our Liffiton collection, including the Seat with Armrest, Bench, Platform Bench, and Picnic Table Settings. The accessible table settings and large low platforms were incorporated to ensure inclusivity and comfort for people of all ages and abilities. Carefully positioned alongside the walking tracks and boardwalk which extend throughout the upgraded park, these elements provide places for residents and visitors to gather, relax, and take in the views of the lagoon, lawns and gardens.

The combination of thoughtful landscape architecture, sustainable planting, and locally made park furniture ensures this treasured destination is used and enjoyed for generations to come.

“It’s a lovely, open space that Porirua residents and the many visitors that come, will enjoy.”
